Kevin Duck (’09, MA ’10) | AI Technology & Entrepreneurship | Greenville, SC

I’m Kevin, class of ’09 and ’10 (BA and MA). I started my career at Google in Mountain View, California, and have since worked for other large and small tech companies while starting a couple businesses of my own.

I’m currently running ModPhone.ai, a company that provides agentic AI solutions for customer communications. We primarily serve school districts, local governments, and SMBs across the country. Our agents handle phone calls, text messages, emails and web chats 24/7 in nearly any language, which helps organizations better manage how they communicate with their customers. I built the platform myself but now spend most of my time focused on growth, from building a team to raising funds to finding new partnerships.

While at Wake Forest, I double majored in economics and German, then joined the MA in Management (MSM) program during its early years. I also had a chance to live in Vienna for a semester at the Flow House, which was one of my most memorable and valuable experiences. While I didn’t study computer science formally, I did audit some CS classes and learned a lot on my own during my later years at Wake, knowing that I wanted to work for a technology company. It paid off when I was hired as a data analyst for Google, and learning how to code has remained one of the most valuable skills I’ve acquired over the years, both professionally and personally.

Outside of work, I spend a lot of time fishing, camping, and woodworking. I also love spending time with my family and can often be found coaching my young kids in basketball and baseball/softball. Finding hobbies that don’t involve computers has been an important way to create a dividing line between work and real life.

I’m always happy to discuss navigating the technology industry, entrepreneurship, finding hobbies and ways to find balance, or general networking, especially with founders in the early-stage SaaS space.
