Brian Li (’03) | Financial Education at Providence Day School | Charlotte, NC

Born in Boston and raised in the South, Brian graduated from Wake Forest University in 2003 with a double major in mathematics and anthropology. Upon graduation, he decided that his next adventure would be to teach in Charlotte, North Carolina. After teaching at a local high school for one year, ‘B. Li’ joined the Providence Day School community in 2004, where he has been teaching math and finance ever since. His interests include reading, weightlifting, DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging), and advocating for financial literacy. Most importantly, he enjoys spending time with his family.

Recently, Brian has presented on the importance of financial literacy at the NAIS People of Color Conference, the NYSAIS Diversity Practitioners Conference, Strategenius EmpowerED Workshop Series, Charlotte is Creative, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg NAACP branch, multiple NAIS member schools, and a variety of volunteer events. He has also been featured on WCNC Charlotte News, WDRB Media Radio, and the Teachers Forum podcast.

Awards and honors include being a former Teacher of the Year and the Endowed Chair of Teaching Excellence at Providence Day School, a Charlotte Ledger 40 Over Forty recipient, and voted a Top 16 Charlotte Observer Education Superhero.

Brian is happy to speak to alumni about various topics, including financial literacy, teaching strategies, and careers in education. He is also willing to foster network connections in related professions in and around Charlotte, NC.
