Connect with Laura
Hi fellow Deacs! I’m Laura (Trollinger) Derry, a proud graduate of WFU in the Class of 2013. My journey since then has taken me across the country and through a diverse range of experiences that have shaped my career.
Following graduation, I launched my career in management consulting in Washington, DC. My focus was on digital transformation, supply chain management, and partnership strategy. It was a dynamic environment where I had the privilege of working alongside fellow WFU alumni who became mentors, colleagues, and friends.
In 2015, I returned to North Carolina to pursue concurrent MD and MBA degrees at UNC Chapel Hill and Duke University. During this time, I continued consulting in a pro bono capacity and with a strategy consulting firm.
After completing my degrees, my husband (Class of 2012) and I ventured west to California. Here, I completed my residency in Internal Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and am now serving as a Clinical Assistant Professor and Hospitalist at Stanford. My current research and non-clinical interests center around hospital operations, care delivery transformation, and the integration of artificial intelligence in healthcare.
Throughout my journey, I’ve been fortunate to have incredible mentors who have guided and supported me every step of the way. I am passionate about connecting with others, sharing insights about consulting, medicine, and healthcare careers, and fostering meaningful connections within our community.
Whether you have questions about consulting, medical training, or navigating post-graduate life, I’m here to help. I look forward to connecting with you!
