As 2025 winds down, we know that many folks are hoping that 2026 brings more than just some flimsy New Year’s resolutions. So whether you are looking for a job change or a full career transition, here are a few actions you can take now (yes, right now) to help you prepare for 2026.

  • Update your LinkedIn (using this guide) and connect with your network. The holidays are a great opportunity to reach out to people in your network and activate those relationships. Give them some life/work updates, and ask for theirs!
  • Follow the advice of one of our Alumni Career Advisers, Elise Jones: “Take a few minutes every week to jot down what you worked on. When it’s time to update your resume, position yourself for a promotion, submit performance review feedback, or have a 1:1 with your manager, you’re prepared with an up-to-date doc of all the things you have been working on.”
  • Dust off that resume and incorporate some of your wins and completed projects! If it has been a while since you last had to update your resume, check out our resume guide.
  • Watch this interview with Hermania Ibarra, author of Working Identity: Unconventional Strategies for Reinventing Your Career. She is a fantastic writer and resource for those who are curious about making a career pivot, and anyone looking to make some big career changes in 2026 should check out her work.
  • Practice self-care. We know this time can be stressful, so make sure that you are taking some time each week to check in with yourself and do something purely for your own enjoyment. Big changes require lots of energy, so be sure to take care of yourself and set yourself up for success in these last few weeks before 2026.
