Exploring Your Third Act & Retirement
Making a career change later in life or planning for retirement can feel intimidating, especially since many people are uncomfortable with change and uncertainty. But there are individuals who have successfully navigated this transition, and they’ve generously created resources and shared their wisdom to help others.
One such resource that we are loving right now is a podcast that we have been listening to called The Retirement Wisdom Podcast. It is hosted by Joe Casey, an executive coach who assists people in designing their lives after their primary career, whether that be a Third Act career, retirement, or whatever other journey they are seeking. The podcast focuses on the question of “how will you invest your precious time” after your primary career, with episodes dedicated to topics like redefining your identity, finding hobbies and volunteering opportunities, and emotional fitness.
Two episodes that we wanted to highlight are “You Are Still Somebody” featuring Carl Landau and “Tiny Experiments” featuring Anne-Laure Le Cunff. The first episode with Landeau is full of reflections on identity, including surprises the hosts have found in retirement, thinking through who you are without a full time job and what a balanced life looks like to you. “Tiny Experiments” focuses on the work of Le Cunff, who identifies three different mindsets we fall into when we are faced with the unknown and gives advice on how to “become a scientist of your own life.”
Be sure to check out this resource if you want some inspiration or guidance on navigating this stage of your career journey!
